Having found this site, you will no doubt be well aware of the success of the launch of the R2-D2 DVD Projector at many of the largest toy exhibitions around the world.

Some of the biggest Star Wars fans here in the UK will be going stir crazy awaiting the launch of this Star Wars themed multimedia device. Unfortunatey at time of writing there have been no updates on the availability of this product. For some the price of the this R2-D2 is somewhat scary, but for others, a small price to pay for your very own droid.Prosepctive buyers came back from a recent Toy Fair in London, wondering where they were going to find the money for him, but no doubt will! The R2 Projecor is best described as an bamazing remote controlled R2-D2 from Japanese maker Nikkoand is packed with features that make him a multi-media entertainment centre.

Standing at around 20" tall this R2-D2 has the following facilities

As a DVD player, the unit is capable of playing DVDs, DVD-R/RW, Video CD, SVCD, Audio CD, MP3, MP4, WMA and audio out supplying DTS and Dolby 5.1

With its Projector capable of up to a 80" wide image that can be shown on either a wall or ceiling. The output brightness is rated at 1200l ANSI lumens with a contrast ratio of 500:1. Depending on the size of picture required Artoo will project from a minimum distance of just under 5ft for the smallest image and up to over 16ft for the largest.

Artoo's Dome head contains the projector lens which can be spun around whilst emmitting the sounds he became famous for from the Star Wars movies, with their being 11 R2 D2 sound effects in total.

The I-Pod dock located at the front of the droid has been designed to work with Mini, Nano, photo, and both sizes of the Video I-Pod.

Other features include a memory card slot which can take images from USB, SD, MMC, MS and Smart Media feeds.

This version of R2 D2 is equipped with an inbuilt speaker system that can give 2 x 10 watt stereo output but can also be connected to audio visual systems via his S-Video, computer in, RCA sockets and optical audio out connections.

Now down to the fun part, the R2-D2 can aso be moved in a forward, back and sideways motion using the remote control provided. The droid and all its funtions are contolled by this remote control which is in fact a massive remote control shaped like the Millenium Falcon which includes effects of its own.

The R2-D2 DVD Projector has to be seen to be believed and once available here in the UK will literaly fly out the stores.
